Anuja For Oscars 2025: The buzz around the Oscars 2025 has officially begun and the Academy has now announced the list of the submissions that have it to shortlist. Kiran Rao’s directorial ‘Laapataa Ladies’ was India’s submission to the Oscars but was not included in the shortlist. Meanwhile, India still has hope for Oscars nomination as ‘Anuja’ is shortlisted in the Best Live Action Film Category.
‘Anuja’ is produced by Oscar winner Guneet Monga and features Nagesh Bhonsle. The movie focuses on the issue of child labour in the garment industry. This marks Guneet’s third nomination in the Academy Awards after ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ and ‘Period: End of Sentence’.
Meanwhile, Hindi language film ‘Santosh’, which was United Kingdom’s entry to the Oscars 2025, is also in the shortlist in the Best International Feature Film category.
Written and directed by Sandhya Suri, Santosh stars Shahana Goswami in the titular role. The movie revolves around a widow, who inherits her late husband’s job of police constable after his death. She gets tasked with the investigation of a young girl’s murder. The movie also premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section.

‘Laapataa Ladies’ was also in the race in the Best International Feature Film category. The movie stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles. The movie revolves around two newly wed brides, who get exchanged during a train ride and the plot focuses on the chaos that follow after this unexpected situation.
