The controversy started over the poster of ‘Maharaj’, with many demanding a boycott of Netflix, the platform releasing the film.

One user stated that if the film tries to hurt Hindu religious sentiments by depicting sadhus and saints negatively, then Junaid Khan, Yash Raj Films, and Netflix are responsible for disturbing law and order. Another user said the film misleads society by attacking Hindu faith, promoting adultery, glorifying terrorists, and degrading moral values.

People have also strongly criticized Aamir Khan. They say that Aamir mocked Lord Shiva in his film PK, and now his son is defaming Hindu religion and cultural traditions in Maharaj. They believe this film should be boycotted.
