Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, recently revealed how he missed out on roles in his father’s home production films before making his acting debut. During a conversation with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Junaid shared that he tested for Laal Singh Chaddha and Laapataa Ladies but was ultimately not cast in either project.
For Laal Singh Chaddha, Junaid recounted filming 20 minutes of footage over four days with Kiran Rao, who was to play his mother. However, the opportunity didn’t materialize due to budgetary constraints. “It was a test for me and also for Papa to see how Advait would handle the material. Ultimately, the film was too expensive to cast a newcomer,” he explained.
Similarly, Junaid auditioned for Laapataa Ladies but director Kiran Rao opted for Sparsh Shrivastava, deeming him better suited for the role. Junaid expressed understanding of her decision, adding, “Our equation remains great. She is warm, fun, and we share a good bond.”
Junaid Khan officially entered the Hindi film industry in 2022 with Maharaj, a Yash Raj Films production. While his performances have been gaining recognition, he is now gearing up for his next venture, Loveyapa, a romantic comedy opposite Khushi Kapoor. Directed by Advait Chandan, the film is slated for release on February 7, 2025.
Legacy Of The Films He Missed
Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), directed by Advait Chandan and starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, and Mona Singh, was a remake of the American classic Forrest Gump. The film, though polarizing in reception, remains a notable part of Aamir Khan’s repertoire.
Laapataa Ladies (2023), led by Sparsh Shrivastava, Nitanshi Goel, and Pratibha Ranta, gained critical acclaim and became India’s official entry to the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2025.
