After the brutal and inhuman attack at Pahalgam, Aamir Khan could not bring himself to attend the special screening of his newly revamped 1994 cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna.
Speaking exclusively to me, Aamir said, “I was reading reports about what happened at Pahalgam in Kashmir. I have been badly affected by the senseless killing of innocents. I was in no state to go (to the preview). I will see it sometime later this week.”
Speaking on the initial rejection of Andaz Apna Apna, Aamir says, “Raj Santoshi and I were the only two people who believed in the film. We loved it. So, when it didn’t work, we were both sad. And then it goes on to become my biggest success in Home Entertainment !!! Both Raj and I were finally redeemed.”
In an interview, director Rajkumar Santoshi expressed his reaction on the success of Andaz Apna Apna, he said, “Its reach, appeal and impact have been beyond anything I ever expected. I still remember when the producer Vinay Sinha came to me with the idea of doing a film with Aamir Khan. Vinayji used to look after Aamir’s work. He convinced me to do the film with him through my stomach. I remember he had brought the most delicious khana for me. He suggested we do something different with Aamir. I had just done two back-to-back serious films, Ghayal and Damini. We decided, why not a comedy? Little did we know that AAA would turn out to be such a laugh riot during shooting and after release.”
Andaz Apna Apna was first released on 4 November 1994 and was immensely loved by the audience, making it a blockbuster hit. It was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, featuring Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor. The film Andaz Apna Apna served as a career breakthrough for many in the cast.
