Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s collaboration for ‘Laapata Ladies’ has turned out to be a big success. The duo is now gearing up for the international release and recently spoke about their personal and professional lives. Aamir, who was previously married to Kiran Rao and Reena Dutta, talked about why he almost quit films. He shared that he was consumed by his work and felt he was not there for his family.
While talking about his decision of why he wanted to quit films, the actor told The Hollywood Reporter India, “I have spent a bulk of my adult life, from the time I became an assistant at 18, right up to now. All of my bandwidth, my focus has been films and cinema. As a result, it made me feel, perhaps I have not been there enough for my relationships, my kids, siblings, whether it was Kiran, when I was married to her, or Reena (Dutta) when I was married to her.”
He added, “I felt a lot of guilt and didn’t feel good about what I had done. So, it was an emotional reaction for me to say I am quitting films. I was grateful that I realized this at the age of 56-57 and didn’t realize it at 88, because then there is nothing you can do about it. At least now I can do something.”
Meanwhile, Kiran Rao’s directorial ‘Laapata Ladies’ is India’s official entry to Oscars 2025. After this announcement, producer Aamir Khan said in a statement, “We are all so happy with the news. I am so proud of Kiran and her entire team. I would like to thank the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, which chose our film to represent India at the Oscars. My heartfelt gratitude to our audience, our media, and the entire film fraternity, for all the love and support they have given Laapata Ladies. Thanks to both Jio and Netflix who have been great partners to work with. I am so happy that all our hard-work has paid off. Thank you everyone. Here’s hoping that Laapata Ladies is able to win the hearts of the members of the Academy. Love, a.”
The movie is streaming on Netflix. It stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles.
