70th National Film Awards Live Updates: National Film Awards, which are in their 70th year, were held at Vigyan Bhavan on October 8. The event saw President Droupadi Murmu felicitating the stalwarts of the film industry and honouring their exceptional work in the past one year. Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was also awarded the Dadsaheb Phalke award during the event, which was broadcasted on YouTube via Doordarshan channel.

Rishabh Shetty will take back trophy in the Best Actor category for his film Kantara. While it became a huge hit, Rishab says he did not expect it. "I always believed in the theory of 'more regional, more global.' Kantara has core regional content and I felt it will connect with people. I wanted to do a Kannada film. But the amount of love that people have shown was unexpected," he shared at the red carpet.

Manoj Bajpayee wins a Special Mention for Gulmohar at the National Film Award. Though he has won the prestigious honour in three more time in the past, what makes this win even more special is the presence of his wife.
"My reaction on winning my fourth National Award remains the same as it was when I received it three times before. When I did theatre, I used to think if I ever win a National Award, my life would get a meaning. By the grace of God, I getting my fourth one for Gulmohar. I consider myself a very blessed artiste who's getting this privilege," he told Doordarshan, adding, "What's special about this time would be my wife's presence there, attending it for the first time. She never came before, so you can understand how important this one has become for me."

Renowned choreographer Jani Master was announced as the winner in the Best Choreography category. However, the award has now been revoked following a POCSO case against him. After learning the same, Jani submitted a memo to the court stating that he would not be utilising the interim bail granted to him.
Anand Ekarshi's Aattam has been announced as the winner in three categories - Best Film, Best Editing and Best Screenplay. The news came as a surprise for Anand, who in an interview with Zoom had revealed that he did not expect it. "To get three national awards for your debut film - you cannot even call it a dream come true because I have never ever dreamt to this sort of an extent," he had shared, adding, "
"I was at my editor's studio, along with a few actor friends when the press conference was happening. I had got a few calls from the media on the previous day saying that there are high chances of Aattam winning some award and all. While we were watching this, suddenly when the award for the best editor was announced, I was super elated because honestly speaking after we had finished the movie and throughout the festival run I was slightly disappointed that nobody was speaking about the edit of the film. I'm not talking about the normal audience but the filmmakers, the other technicians or people who have been working on the film. I really thought that the editing of Attam was of a masterful craft."
