To combat the rising spread of pornographic content online, the Central Government has taken stringent measures, moving to ban 25 mobile apps and websites. According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officials, the content on these platforms severely violates Indian laws, featuring explicit sexual scenes, nudity, and material laden with sexual innuendos, lacking any meaningful story or social context.
The action started when these platforms were accused of broadcasting “obscene”, “vulgar” and in some cases “pornographic” content. Officials also expressed concern that some shows presented sensitive issues like family relationships in a sexual manner, which is considered extremely objectionable and harmful.

This is not the first time questions have been raised on these OTT platforms. In April 2025, the Supreme Court had issued notices to the Central Government, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ALTBalaji, ULLU and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X (formerly Twitter). These notices were issued following a PIL, which sought control over online pornographic content.

The list of banned OTT apps include, Adda TV, ALTT, Big Shots App, Boomex, Bull App, Desiflix, Feneo, Fugi, Gulab App, Hitprime, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, Jalva App, Kangan App, Look Entertainment, Mojflix, MoodX, Navarasa Lite, NeonX VIP, ShowHit, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Triflicks, ULLU, Wow Entertainment.
The Ullu show House Arrest has sparked fresh controversy after a viral social media clip featuring actor Ajayz Khan was accused of containing obscene content. Political leaders and women’s organizations have strongly condemned the clip, demanding accountability.
National Commission For Women(NCW)
Following the controversy, the National Commission for Women (NCW) also took suo motu cognisance and raised concerns and said strict action will be taken against such content that defames women, even warning of a complete ban in case of violation of rules.
