Over several years, Rekha was a part of headlines due to controversies. A disturbing incident for Rekha

This disturbing incident was revealed in Rekha’s biography, Rekha: The Untold Story. In 1969, Rekha started working as a lead actress. She was only 15 years old when she signed the film Anjana Safar. In the film, she was paired opposite Bengali actor Biswajit Chatterjee, who was 32 at that time.

Kissing Scene Shot Without Permission

The film’s director, Kuljit Pal, planned to shoot a kissing scene without Rekha’s permission. The scene required Biswajit to act romantically with the actress, but he suddenly kissed her, catching Rekha by surprise. He pulled her close and forced a kiss on her.

Rekha’s Distressing Experience

Rekha tried to push him away as she felt very uncomfortable. The most disturbing part was that the director did not stop the scene and allowed it to continue for nearly five minutes. When the shot ended, Rekha was left shocked, shaken, and crying, while some crew members laughed, whistled, and clapped.

Controversy After the Scene

The kissing scene created a lot of controversy after it was reported in the media, but it was still kept in the film. In an interview, Biswajit defended himself, saying he only did what the director asked him to do.

Film Release and Censorship Issues

Soon, Anjana Safar faced censorship problems because of the long kissing scene between Rekha and Biswajit. Although the film was shot in 1969, it was released in theatres ten years later due to production delays. In 1979, Anjana Safar finally reached the big screen under the title Do Shikaar but failed to perform well at the box office.
