JNUSU Election Result 2025: The Left Unity has once again claimed victory in a closely contested battle at the JNUSU elections 2025. The university has been painted red after the left has swept the polls with an emphatic win, bagging all four posts. Sunil Yadav of the Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF), representing Left Unity Panel, has secured the post of the General Secretary with 1,915 votes.
Yadav defeated ABVP’s Rajeshwar Kant Dubey, who trailed narrowly behind with 1,841 votes. The 74-vote margin determined the outcome of the university polls amid a political showdown.
Who Is Sunil Yadav?
Sunil Yadav, a PhD scholar at the Centre for European Studies, emerged victorious in the JNUSU elections 2025. A first-generation graduate from Uttar Pradesh’s Bedipur village, Yadav’s journey from a modest background illustrates his commitment to activism.
According to reports, Yadav’s father works as a Group D staff member at a government school in Baghpat, while his mother is a homemaker. Upon graduating from the University of Delhi in 2021, he joined Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to pursue Master’s. He soon became a prominent voice on campus issues.

After winning the JNU polls, newly elected JNUSU General Secretary, Sunil Yadav, told ANI, “This is a victory of the students of the campus, a victory for the progressive politics of JNU, which has repeatedly rejected ABVP, BJP, RSS… Ever since the new education policy was introduced by the central government, public universities are being pushed towards privatisation…”

Meet Other Winners
Kizhakoot Gopika Babu from the Left Unity alliance won the Vice President post with a sweeping 2,966 votes, defeating her closest rival, Tanya Kumari (ABVP), far behind with 1,730 votes. Meanwhile, Sditi Mishra of the Left Alliance won the President post of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union. Mishra defeated ABVP’s Vikas Patel, who secured 1447 votes. Moreover, Danish Ali won the post of Joint Secretary by securing 1991 votes. She defeated ABVP’s Anuj Damara, who secured 1762 votes.
