Once again, the ‘coaching factories’ have produced notable results in the NEET-UG 2024 exams for candidates at centers such as Tagore PG College in Sikar, Rajasthan; Modern School in Kota, Rajasthan; Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Kottayam, Kerala; Unit-1 School of Engineering in Rajkot, Gujarat; and Model School in Rohtak.
Amid accusations of systematic failures by advocates calling for the cancellation of NEET-UG 2024, the National Testing Agency released results by the center on Saturday. The results reveal that centers located in coaching hubs performed exceptionally well, while those implicated in “paper leaks” and other irregularities showed poor outcomes. More than 2,000 candidates from Sikar centers achieved scores above 650 out of 720, similar to Kottayam and Kota, which also reported a significant number of top scorers.
At the Tagore PG College center, over 20% of candidates scored 600 or higher. Interestingly, there are more candidates (43) who scored 650 or above than those (30) who scored between 600 and 649, virtually guaranteeing them seats in government medical colleges. Analysis of the results revealed that while attention focused on a center in Haryana’s Jhajjar, candidates at the Rohtak center in the same state, another coaching hub, performed significantly better.
IIT-Madras’s report to the Supreme Court on alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam revealed that Kottayam ranked third nationally for the distribution of top-rank holders (top 1,000) by city. Sikar and Kota in Rajasthan led the rankings. Sikar saw an increase from 27 to 55 top-rank holders compared to last year’s 1000. Similarly, Kota’s top-rank holders increased from 13 to 35. Kottayam, which previously had 14 top-rank holders in the top 1000, now has 25.

According to the IIT-Madras report, this increase is attributed to the presence of numerous coaching classes in these areas. In Kottayam, Vidyananda Vidyabhavan, Junior Baselios English Medium School, and Chinmaya Vidyalaya reported 8.2%, 11%, and 10.4% of their candidates scoring 600 and above in NEET-UG 2024, respectively. Among these centers, five aspirants scored 700 and above, and 29 out of 30,000 candidates nationwide achieved scores of 650 and above.
Although students attending coaching at these “factories” come from all over the country, many prefer to take the exam at their coaching center locations. Similar statistics have emerged from another renowned coaching hub: Rajkot in Gujarat. At the Unit-1 School of Engineering, out of 1,968 candidates who appeared for the exam, more than 250 scored 600 or higher. Notably, 12 candidates achieved 700 or more, with one student scoring a perfect 720, possibly the highest score at any center in the current NEET. Over 12.5% of candidates at this center scored above 600 marks.
