New Delhi: According to the National Credit Framework final report which was released by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday states that students now can earn credits from their Indian Knowledge System about Vedas and Purans. The NCrF was established in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which calls for "no hard separations" between vocational and academic streams. The drafting framework, which would place the school education system under a credit system, was released by the UGC in October of last year. The framework also provides for the "crediting" of any learning that has been assessed. It means that credits can be acquired through classroom teaching/learning, laboratory work, innovation laboratories, sports and games, yoga, physical activities, performing arts, music, handicraft work, social work, and NCC, among other things. The final document includes a list of 18 major Vidyas or theoretical disciplines, and 64 kalas, or applied sciences or vocational disciplines and crafts, that can be considered for credit.
