School Holiday In Punjab, Himachal Extended Till September 7 Amid Floods And Heavy Rainfall

All government and private schools, colleges, universities, and Polytechnic institutes in Punjab will remain closed till Sunday, September 7, 2025.

School Holiday: Educational institutions in Punjab will remain closed on Saturday, September 6, as the state continues to battle floods triggered by heavy rainfall and the overflowing Satluj river. The government is promptly taking action to reduce damage and prevent loss of human lives. In this regard, the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed the closure of all schools and colleges in the state until September 7. The schools were scheduled to reopen on September 4, but due to persistent heavy rains and floods, the holidays have been extended.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains wrote on X, “As directed by Hon’ble CM Punjab Sh. Bhagwant Singh Mann Ji, in view of the flood situation, all Govt/Aided/Recognized & Private Schools, Colleges, Universities & Polytechnics across Punjab will remain closed till 7th Sept 2025. Everyone is requested to strictly follow local administration’s guidelines.”

School Closed In Himachal

Similarly, in Himachal Pradesh, which is facing disruptions due to heavy rainfall, landslides and floods, the administration has ordered the closure of schools till September 7. In this regard, holiday in all educational institutions, both government and private, across the state will be observed on September 6. The decision has been taken considering the safety of the students and staff amidst worsening weather conditions.

The official notification issued by the Education Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Rakesh Kanwar, stated that all schools, colleges will remain shut across the state until September 7.
“Whereas, the State of Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing persistent heavy to very heavy rainfall across all regions over the past several days, leading to widespread landslides, felling of trees, road blockages, interruptions in electricity and drinking water supply, and significant damage to public infrastructure throughout the State. In addition, due to prevalent inclement weather conditions, there is high possibility of recurrence of such incidents at several locations in the entire State of Himachal Pradesh.

Therefore, considering the above & to ensure security and safety of students and staff, it has been decided by the Government that all Government and Private Colleges & Schools (including DIETs) shall remain closed till 07.09.2025. Teachers and administrative staff will also be exempted from attending Colleges/ Schools; however, concerned Heads of institutions shall ensure that teaching classes are conducted through online mode, whenever possible,” the order read.
