After remaining closed for more than a week due to relentless rain and flooding, schools and colleges in Punjab are finally reopening. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced on Sunday that all government, private, and aided schools, colleges, and universities in the state will reopen from Monday, September 8. However, all government schools in the state will remain closed for students on September 8 and will reopen on September 9, as cleaning work will be carried out in the schools.
In an X post, the Education Minister noted that if any school or college is affected by floods, the decision to close it will be made by the respective district’s Deputy Commissioner.
What Does The Order State?
It has been made mandatory for the management of private schools to ensure that the school building and classrooms are completely safe to guarantee the safety of students and teachers.
All government schools in the state will remain closed for students on September 8. Teachers will be present in the schools, and cleaning activities will be carried out with the assistance of S.M.C., panchayats, municipal councils, and corporations.
Teachers have been instructed to thoroughly inspect school buildings. If any kind of issue or defect is found, it must be immediately reported to the district’s Deputy Commissioner and the Engineering Department.

Meanwhile, Punjab Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Sunday stated that 40 villages in the state were affected by floods and relief operations are underway with rescue teams, administration and volunteers on the ground. As of Saturday, 46 people have lost their lives due to floods in Punjab, according to the officials.
