All this happened amidst allegations of paper leaks, which ignited the controversy of NEET, forcing the NTA to give grace marks. While deliberating on the petitions for anomalies in the examination, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra observed that every direction to re-conduct the examination will have to unmistakably, at the threshold itself, establish that the sanctity of the entire examination process has been jeopardized. The bench told the lawyers of the candidates during the hearing, which lasted all day, to prove their allegation of gross irregularities in conducting the examination.

NEET -UG Controversy

The NEET-UG controversy broke out in 2024 due to several discrepancies raked up during the test taken by National Testing Agency, NTA. Reports of question paper leaks aired on May 5, 2024, sparked an outcry. Leaked questions were pointed out on social media but were denied by NTA. In Patna, Bihar, the police arrested 13 individuals, including four candidates of the entrance examination who allegedly paid hefty amounts for getting the exam paper in advance. One such raid was reported in Godhra of Gujarat, where malpractice was unearthed with a teacher who is also the deputy superintendent, allegedly helping candidates during the exam. The matter involved candidates from several states and hence the intervention of CBI. Controversy further intensified with the release of exam results on 4 June 2024, when a sudden surge in top scores was deemed quite an implausible rise. This discrepancy saw students coming out to protest and asking for the exam to be canceled amidst demands for re-evaluation.
