NCERT Textbooks: The National Council of Educational Research (NCERT) has made a major change in the 10th class syllabus. Now high school children will not be able to read three chapters like the periodic table, democracy and sources of energy. The council has removed all these three chapters. The council has argued behind its removal to reduce the burden on the students.
At the beginning of the year, there was a lot of uproar over the removal of the theory of development from the 10th standard syllabus. More than 1,800 scientists and educators wrote an open letter expressing concern. The government, however, dismissed all the criticisms.

Removing chapters like the periodic table from the new books of class 10th has come to the fore. There is also a chapter on Environmental Sustainability and Sources of Energy. Full chapters on democracy, challenges to democracy and political parties have also been removed.

The syllabus is being rationalized due to the coronavirus pandemic, says NCERT. The burden on children is being reduced. Students will be able to read these chapters further. For this, they have to choose these subjects in classes 11th and 12th.

NCERT removes references like ‘Khalistan’, ‘seperate Sikh nation’ from Class 12 political science textbook
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) removed references to a separate Sikh nation Khalistan from the class 12 political science textbook after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) raised objections, according to education ministry officials.
The SGPC objected to the mention of the Anandpur Sahib resolution in a book called “Politics In India Since Independence”.
