Modern Era Journalism started in India in 1780 with James Augustus Hickey’s English language newspaper ‘Bengal Gazette’. In this, the news of the movement of commercial water ships was prominently published. Along with this, news of political and administrative activities or comments on them were also published from time to time. In 1826, the first Hindi newspaper Udant Martand started under the editorial leadership of Jugal Kishore Shukla.
Journalism has played an important role in India’s freedom struggle. Most of the revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle did journalism and used journalism as an effective tool for the freedom struggle. Raja Rammohan Roy, Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, Makhanlal Chaturvedi etc. run the freedom movement with their pen.
Journalism has come a long way before reaching the present day. Today Indian media is called the fourth pillar of democracy. It is a powerful medium to raise the voice of civil rights. The media reviews the works of the government and conveys the voice of society to the government.
There are many mediums of media in the form of electronic media, print media and new media where work can be done on various dimensions of journalism. Youths are influencing society with their ideas with incomes of lakhs in this field. Contributing to the development of the country and society. There are excellent institutes and opportunities available in front of the youth who want to make a career in journalism with the desire to do something.

Sonika Jual, a student of the International School of Media and Entertainment Studies (ISOMES), located in Filmy City, Noida 16A, Delhi NCR region, says – “I thought a lot before making media my profession. I chose a good media institute for my studies and started my career as a journalist. Got success in that. After that, I tried my hand in the field of YouTube. Sarfaraz, who is pursuing his graduation in Journalism and Mass Communication from the International School of Media and Entertainment Studies, says that journalism is his passion and through this, he wants to be the voice of the poor and downtrodden. He says that by studying journalism, he is developing his skills so that he can give voice to the issues along with getting a good job.
