NIRF Ranking 2025: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has once again secured the top position in the overall ranking of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The Ministry of Education on Thursday, September 4 released NIRF Rankings 2025. Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan announced the 10th edition at a special event held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. The rankings are now available on the official NIRF website at nirfindia.org.
Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar along with other dignitaries, was also present at the event. The NIRF Rankings 2025 feature 17 categories, including, Overall, Universities, Colleges, Research Institutions, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Dental, Law, Architecture and Planning, Agriculture and Allied Sectors, Innovation, Open University, Skill University, State Public University, and SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) or Sustainability.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has been ranked as the top university in India, while Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, has successfully retained its position at second place.
IIT Madras is followed by Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in the overall category.
Hindu College has topped the list in the category of College, followed by Miranda House, Hans Raj College, Kirori Mal College and St. Stephens’s College.
In the Engineering category, IIT Madras has taken the lead, followed by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.
The educational institutions are ranked on the basis of parameters, including Teaching, Learning and Resources; Research and Professional Practice; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception.
