The following steps explain how CAT 2025 overall and sectional percentile scores are calculated for a candidate. For illustration, the QA section is used as an example, but the same method applies to the overall percentile and the other two sections, DILR and VARC.
Step 1: Count the total candidates (N) who appeared for CAT across all sessions.
Step 2: Rank candidates (r) based on QA scaled scores. If multiple candidates have the same score, they get the same rank. For example, two candidates with the highest score both get rank 1; the next highest scorer gets rank 3.
Step 3: Calculate percentile (P) using:
𝑃 = (𝑁-r/N) x 100
Step 4: Round the percentile to two decimal places. Scores ≥99.995 become 100, ≥99.985 but <99.995 become 99.99, and so on.
