Himachal School Holiday: Amid relentless heavy rainfall, the Himachal Pradesh State Government has officially announced a holiday in all educational institutions, both government and private, across the state until September 7, 2025. The decision was made concerning the safety of the students and staff amidst worsening weather conditions.
In an official notice issued on Wednesday, Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar directed that all schools, colleges will remain shut across the state until further order. Following multiple landslides in Himachal Pradesh, triggered by torrential showers, schools remained closed in several districts on September 2, 2025.
“Teachers and administrative staff will also be exempted from attending Colleges/schools; however, concerned Heads of institutions shall ensure that teaching classes are conducted through online mode, whenever possible,” the order stated.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert for moderate to heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh for the next few hours. A risk of flash floods, severe waterlogging, and landslides still looms over districts such as Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, and Bilaspur. According to the State Disaster Management, the monsoon rains have claimed 341 lives in the state so far.
