Hemant Soren launches scholarship scheme to pursue foreign studies for SC, ST, OBC

New Delhi: For the first time in history, students in Jharkhand will be getting Chevening Marad Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship by the British High Commission. The scholarship will be given to meritorious students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and minority communities of Jharkhand.

The efforts of the Chief Minister Hemant Soren is being witnessed. The British High Commission started the Chevening Marad Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship Scheme in partnership with the Maral Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship Scheme to provide scholarships to a maximum of five students. This global scholarship scheme is unique in itself. Now talented children from underprivileged society will get global scholarship here.

State government to make agreements

An MoU in this regard will be signed with the State Government and the Foreign Office for Commonwealth and Development (FCDO), British High Commission, New Delhi on August 23.

Prior to this, the Government of Jharkhand was providing financial assistance through the Maral Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Pardeshi Scholarship Scheme for studies in selected courses of selected institutes/universities of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Now students belonging to other categories like Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities and Backward Classes will be benefited from this.

Five students will be given the scholarship

Under this MoU, maximum of 5 students will be selected for Chevening Maral Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship Scheme for every academic year. The Jharkhand government will bear the entire tuition fee of the selected five students. The remaining costs will be borne by the British High Commission, Commonwealth of Foreign Affairs and Development Office (FCDO). All payments under the MoU will be as per the guidelines approved by the Government of India.

Scholarship will be given for 1 year master’s degree

The academic year under the scholarship will start in 2023-24 (for which applications are invited in August 2022), which will be effective for three years. In such a situation, scholarship can be provided to the students for the academic year 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26.

According to the scholarship applications received in the academic year 2026-27, the MoU will be done till March 2026. Chevening Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship for student/girls academic tuition fee plus examination and thesis fee, a monthly allowance sufficient to cover living expenses for a single student, an allowance package and a return airfare for the approved route from the place of residence ( Economy class) so as to cover the commuting journey.

The scholarship will be awarded for a one-year master’s degree at recognized universities in the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

Chief Minister fulfils his promise, arranged for global scholarship too

Under the scholarship scheme in September 2021, when seven selected students were going abroad for higher education. At that time the Chief Minister had said that soon the talented youth of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Minority communities would also be given opportunities for higher education.

As promised, the Chief Minister paved the way for these children to pursue higher education abroad in less than a year. In addition, with the efforts of the Chief Minister, the British High Commission, in partnership with the Maral Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Pardeshi Scholarship Scheme, started the Chevening Maral Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship Scheme to provide scholarships to a maximum of five students.

Number increased from 10 to 25

It may be known that under the Maral Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Pardeshi Scholarship Scheme, scholarships was being provided to a maximum of 10 students in the past. But now a maximum of 25 students will be given the scholarship. By selecting a maximum of 10 students of Scheduled Tribes of Jharkhand, maximum 5 of Scheduled Castes, maximum 3 of Minorities and maximum of 7 from Backward Classes, every year.

In the selected courses of leading universities and institutions abroad, high level education like Masters / Scholarship will be provided for M.Phil. The Chevening Maral Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship Scheme started with the aim of making the scheme more powerful will make the path of higher education easier.
