CLAT 2023

CLAT 2023: For applicants taking the exam, the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has released the CLAT 2023 exam instructions. The CLAT 2023 exam will take place on December 18, 2022. Instructions for the CLAT exam include bell timings, a code of conduct, a scoring system, and tips for answering the question paper.

Admit cards for CLAT 2023 have already been made available. Candidates can download the admit card from the consortium’s official website — consortiumofnlusc.ac.in — and indicate their preference for admission to one of the national law universities (NLUs).

Exam bell timings

Timings Type of bell Bell purpose
1:00 pm Long Bell Entry of candidates inside the test centre premises
1:30 pm Long Bell Candidates can enter the exam hall
1:50 pm Short Bell Distribution of the sealed envelopes and announcement of instructions by the invigilators
2:00 pm Long Bell Commencement of the test.
2:15 pm Short Bell No candidate will be allowed to enter the test centre after this time
3:00 pm Short Bell Marks the completion of 60 (sixty) minutes of the test
3:50 pm Short Bell Warning bell to indicate that 10 (ten) minutes are remaining for the test to end
4:00 pm Long Bell Marks the completion of the test. No candidate will be allowed to write anything on the omr response sheet/ question booklet after this bell

CLAT 2023: Important items/documents to carry

Candidates are advised to carry these important items/documents to carry with them: 

  • Admit card and photo id proof
  • Photograph
  • Blue/black ballpen
  • Transparent water bottle
  • Mask and personal hand sanitiser
  • Analogue watch
  • PwDs/ SAPs should carry their original disability certificate to the test centre

CLAT 2023: Exam instructions

  • The exam centre will be open to candidates starting at 1:00 pm, and they must be seated at their assigned seats by 1:30 pm.
  • Once a candidate enters the test room, he/she is not allowed to leave until after 4 o’clock.
  • Candidates will not be allowed to show up for the exam if they come after 2:15 pm.
  • The CLAT 2023 exam will start promptly at 2:00 pm and last for two hours. Candidates who arrive after 2:15 pm will not be given extra time to complete the question paper.
  • Once a candidate enters the exam room, they are not permitted to use the restroom.
  • Before beginning the exam, candidates should let the invigilators know if they have any health difficulties.

Candidates may keep the question paper, a copy of the OMR sheet, and their CLAT admission card after the exam is over as long as the invigilator has duly signed it. After the test is over, the CLAT 2023 answer key will be made available.

Marking scheme 

There will be 150 questions in the CLAT UG 2023 exam paper. Each correct response earns one mark. While 0.25 marks are deducted for each incorrect response. Unanswered questions won’t result in deductions.
