The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams for classes 10 and 12 will begin on February 15, and students have started preparing hard to perform well in their exams.
While studying, many students often feel confused about various aspects, such as whether a neat presentation or an answer sheet is more important. To address these concerns and provide official answers to students, the CBSE has prepared several FAQs.
We have selected a few important questions from the 39 listed to help clear up any confusion ahead of the exams.
STUDENT: How should I improve my presentation? Are any marks given for good presentation?
CBSE: No separate marks are given for presentation, but your answers should be neat, well-organized, and important points should be underlined.
STUDENT: I get very tensed when my friends tell me they have revised the entire syllabus 2-3 times, and I haven’t even completed it once.
CBSE: Do not panic. Just focus on your preparation. Draw up a daily timetable and stick to it regularly.
STUDENT: Is whitener allowed in board exams, and can we use gel pens?
CBSE: The use of whitener is not permitted. Yes, blue or royal blue ink gel pens can be used.
STUDENT: How can I reappear in the board exams?
CBSE: A student who fails in class 10th or 12th board exams can reappear as a private candidate or as a regular student enrolled in a school. For further details, you can visit www.cbse.nic.in.
STUDENT: If a student fails in a pre-board examination, does that mean they cannot appear for the board examination?
CBSE: Pre-boards help students assess how well they are prepared for the board exams. A student cannot be prevented from appearing in the board exams if they are otherwise eligible.
STUDENT: Is it compulsory to write the answers in the same sequence as in the question paper?
CBSE: No, you may attempt the questions in any order, starting with the ones you are most confident about. Just make sure to write the correct question number for each answer.
STUDENT: My writing speed is very slow, and because of that, I am not able to complete my paper. Can something be done?
CBSE: Practice regularly to improve your speed. Before writing any answer, organize your ideas and try to write your answer in points if time is limited. Never leave an entire question unanswered.
STUDENT: If a choice is given to attempt one of the questions in the board exam, can we attempt both? If yes, which answer would be considered?
CBSE: The instructions in the question paper should be followed. Attempting both options takes up valuable time and can confuse the examiner.
STUDENT: I am very scared of board exams, and despite studying the whole year, I am not confident. I also make silly mistakes. What can I do to overcome this?
CBSE: Do not worry. Stay relaxed. Always write down key points while revising topics. Practice solving sample papers within a time limit to gain confidence and improve retention. Read questions carefully before answering, and take regular breaks to relax during practice.
STUDENT: Is a candidate eligible to improve their performance after qualifying Class 10th and 12th?
CBSE: Yes, a candidate who has qualified the Class 10th/12th exam may appear for improvement in one or more subjects, but only in the following year.
STUDENT: How many times can a student of Class 10th and 12th appear in a compartment exam?
CBSE: A candidate placed in compartment can reappear in July/August of the same year. They can also avail a second chance in the February/March/April exams of the next year and a third chance in the July compartment exams of that year.
STUDENT: Will a student lose marks if opting for Hindi as a medium for writing the board examination?
CBSE: No, students will not lose marks for answering in Hindi.
