Apply Now! Nominations Invited For UNESCO’s 2025 Global Citizenship Education Award

Nominations are now open for the 2025 UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education, a biennial award established with the support of the Republic of Korea to recognize outstanding initiatives advancing global citizenship education (GCED).

The Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU) is welcoming nominations for the inaugural edition of the UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education. If you know of potential candidates for the Prize, please nominated through the INCCU before August 18, 2025, to allow submission to UNESCO Headquarters in Paris by September 1, 2025.

With support from the Republic of Korea, the biennial prize recognizes projects that emphasize Global Citizenship Education (GCED), including related projects for promoting intercultural understanding; fostering engagement of youth in civic life, and embodying digital citizenship. UNESCO has asked each member state to select a maximum of three candidates and to conduct the national process of selecting the candidates. Candidates must be submitted in English or French through the established UNESCO online portal by 11:59pm (Paris time, UTC+1) on September 1, 2025.

The award represents a part of their broader work under Sustainable Development Goal 4, especially Target 4.7 around education for sustainable development, human rights and global citizenship, and is a part of UNESCO’s strategic and operational objective from 2022-2029 to develop inclusive and peaceful societies.

The prize will use a $623,000 (Rs 5.31 crore) fund over a period of six years (2024-2029) to cover award amounts and administrative costs. In addition to receiving a cash prize, winners will receive a medal and a certificate.

Selections will be made by the UNESCO Director-General, based on the recommendations of a five-member jury of independent experts in the field of global citizenship education.
