In addition to serving as a common qualifying final-year MBBS exam, a licensing exam to practice modern medicine, and a screening exam for foreign medical graduates who wish to practice in the country, NExT will replace the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) PG for admission to postgraduate programs.

The NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 exams will be held twice a year in accordance with the NExT Regulations 2023, which were released by the NMC.
However, Union Minister for Health, Mansukh Mandaviya, had earlier stated that the examination would be open to students starting with the 2020 MBBS batch and beyond.

“The 2019 class will not be included in the examination,” he had stressed.

The Indian Medical Association, meantime, had opposed the exam, claiming that it could not be implemented in the current environment unless the NMC ensured uniform educational standards across all medical colleges in the nation.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
