7th pay commission, DA hike: In an attempt to bring relief for government employees ahead of Holi West Bengal government has announced to hike 3% Dearness Allowance DA. State finance (independent charge) minister Chandrima Bhattacharya has announced that Dearness Allowance would be raised by 3% from March onwards for West Bengal government employees. Bhattacharya on Wednesday presented the state budget 2023-24 in the West Bengal Assembly. The minister announced that the allocation fund for MLAs for local area development under Vidhayak Elaka Unnayan Praklp has also been increased to Rs 70 lakh from Rs 60 lakh for the next financial year.

The decision of DA hike has been taken months after the protest of government employees. They held protest outside the West Bengal Assembly in Kolkata in November 2022. Their demand of getting DA at par with central government employees has been fulfilled now. It is the big triumph of state government employees.

They also pointed that the TMC government has not paid them the revised dearness allowance after the seventh pay commission was implemented.

Meanwhile, There is possibility of good news for central government employees ahead of Holi. The government is considering to increase DA by 4 per cent in coming days. According to media report, the central government will announce DA hike decision in the first week of March.

The central government hikes DA and DR of government employees and pensioners twice a year. First in January, then again in July. According to AICPI data, the figures will be available until December 2022. As a result, a 4% increase in DA seems almost certain.

The total DA will be 42% after the 4% dearness allowance increase. The total annual dearness allowance on a Rs 18,000 basic salary is now Rs 90,720. (annually). Every month, there will be a Rs 720 increase. Employees currently receive Rs 6,840 in dearness allowance per month at 38%. Employees will now receive Rs 7,560 per month after the raise.
