KRISHNANAGAR (NADIA): A tragic incident took a dark and unusual turn in a village in Bengal, as three minors fulfilled a 14-year-old boy’s supposed “last wish” for a rosogulla (a type of sweet) and cold drinks before his unfortunate demise. This followed an alleged ransom demand of Rs 3 lakh to his financially struggling widowed mother, which seemingly went unanswered.
These disturbing details emerged after the police presented their findings to a Juvenile Justice Board in Krishnanagar, Nadia, on Sunday. The victim, a Class VIII student, lost his life on August 25 at the hands of his three kidnappers. These juveniles aimed to secure the ransom to purchase a computer for gaming purposes.
The boy had lost his father a few years ago and stayed with his mother, who worked as a domestic helper, in his maternal uncle’s residence in Ghurni, Krishnanagar.
The events unfolded as the student went missing on a Friday afternoon. His mother, named Soma, reported, “He had gone to a shop but didn’t return by night. I filed a complaint at Kotwali police station early on Saturday.”
After the police investigation, the juveniles were arrested on Saturday. They confessed their involvement in the crime. According to them, they took the boy to the outskirts of Krishnanagar town, where they strangled him. Subsequently, they placed his body into a sack and disposed of it in a pond. The police recovered the victim’s body. It is suspected that the kidnappers were familiar with the 14-year-old boy.
