New Delhi: The Chakki railway bridge located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh collapsed on Saturday. The Additional District Magistrate rolled out this information.
“The Chakki bridge in Kangra district collapsed today,” said Rohit Rathore, ADM Kangra.
A flash flood occurred in the early hours on Saturday in the Mandi district. Following this the water entered houses and shops of the region. Many locals were trapped and the parked vehicles were damaged.

Govt and private educational institutions to remain closed
The incident also affected various places like Balh, Sadar, Thunag, Mandi and Lamathach in the district. Heavy rains have been pouring in Mandi for the last two days. In view of the heavy downpour, various government and private educational institutions have been ordered to remain closed on August 20.
However, exceptions were made for colleges and ITI. The order was issued by the district deputy commissioner Arindam Chaudhary.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has made predictions of heavy rainfall in various districts of Himachal Pradesh. These include Kangra, Chamba, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, and Mandi.

Advisory has been issued for tourists as well as locals to avoid going near river and water streams in bad weather. The Himachal Pradesh’s Disaster Management department has also issued warnings of landslide due to incessant rainfall. The warnings are issued throughout the state till August 25.
