Incident in detail
In the evening, a man caused a commotion outside the SP office, alleging that he was being prevented from practising something. There was also an attempt to pressure him into withdrawing the case. The situation escalated to the point where he even attempted to remove his clothes.
Upon receiving the information, female police officers from Civil Lines Kotwali arrived at the scene and apprehended the man, escorting him to the police station. During this incident, a girl present started crying, and someone recorded videos of the scene. In those videos, the girl can be heard expressing her discomfort, claiming that certain individuals wanted her to engage in improper activities while wearing a burqa.
The girl vehemently protested, stating that she did not want to wear a burqa that stripped her of her dignity, and she expressed strong negative feelings towards the Muslim religion. She even pleaded for assistance from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Eventually, the police took the man into custody and later released him after questioning at the police station.
Sharad Panwar, the in-charge of Civil Lines Kotwali, explained that the girl appeared to be in a distressed state. She had come to the court and was sitting in the chamber with her advocate. A disagreement arose between the girl and the advocate’s wife, leading to the incident. As no formal complaint was lodged, the girl was released.
