Noida: The Uttar Pradesh government has granted permission to issue global tenders to hire a firm that will build the world’s longest pod taxi. A complete project study for the PRT has been prepared by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). The 14.6-kilometre corridor is expected to cost Rs. 640 crore. When completed, the Yamuna Motorway Corridor will be the world’s longest PRT.
The project will connect the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar along with business and entertainment centres around the Yamuna Expressway.
YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh said, “There are hardly five to six companies in the world that have expertise in developing pod taxi systems and, so far, all of them have expressed interest in the project.”
He added, “During a layover at the airport, people can take one to the proposed International Film City in Sector 21 and visit an amusement park there. It will be a complete game-changer.”
The initiative will also benefit tourism and industry significantly. Passengers arriving at Noida International Airport will have the opportunity to tour industry clusters such as Handicraft Park, MSME Park, Apparel Park, industrial units in Sector 32, and Toy Park and industrial units in Sector 33.
