Lucknow: While raising questions over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday condemned an incident in which a constable was allegedly thrashed to death. The dead body of the cop was later thrown into a gutter.

The SP chief tweeted, "The news of the murder of a constable near the Kotwali in Pratapgarh is enough to gauge the law and order situation in UP. Tribute to the deceased soldier and demand for justice! Due to such incidents, the morale of the police falls and the rioters increase. Condemnable!"

The incident took place at Lucknow-Prayagraj highway. The deceased, Sanjay Yadav, was a constable in Chhattisgarh Police. He was visiting his wife during her pregnancy.

As soon as the police learnt about the incident, a team was immediately sent to the site to recover the body. The dead body of the deceased was then sent for the Post Mortem.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rohit Mishra informed that the Kunda Police was on patrol when it found a large gathering at the incident spot. During the interrogation, the police found that a group of four people have recklessly beaten up a man and thrown him into the gutter.

The police nabbed two of them while the rest managed to escape.
