Both are students of Dantuni village. The duo committed the heinous act after attending the funeral procession of a 25-year-old woman who died at PRM Medical College and Hospital on July 13. Once the pyre was lit, people who accompanied the procession gradually left the burial ground. Taking advantage of isolation, Sundar pull out the portion of burning dead body from the pyre. He divided it into three pieces and threw back two pieces into fire. He started eating the third piece with Narendra, according to the eye witnesses. The locals were shocked to see the incident. When the bereaved and shocked relatives dissuaded the duo and asked them to stop, they started dancing before them. This move forced the group to assault them after tying to a pole, police said.

Both the accused were in an inebriated state when the incident occurred. Sundar reportedly practiced sorcery and planned to commit the act. He was of the view that consuming the flesh of unmarried women would provide him supernatural power.
