Pune: An ACP from the Balewadi area of Pune killed his wife and nephew, and soon after, he shot himself at their resident. The Chaturshringi police station was in the process of filing an offence.
The officer was identified as Bharat Gaikwad, 57, who was posted in the Amravati district as an assistant commissioner of police (ACP). The woman was identified as the wife of ACP, Moni Gaikwad, 44, and his nephew as Deepak Gaikwad, 35.
As per the police investigation, ACP Gaikwad was on leave and returned home to Lakshman Nagar on Saturday. The police suspect that he used his private pistol to open fire at his wife and nephew around 3.15 am. It is also suspected that he may have shot himself.
During the incident, ACP Gaikwad’s mother, two sons, and other family members were present at the house. They heard the gunshots and immediately informed the police. Responding swiftly, a police team arrived at the location and commenced their investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashikant Borate stated, “No suicide note has been discovered so far, and we are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause behind this tragic incident.”
