New Delhi: A 27-year-old woman died by suicide in Kallakurichi of Tamil Nadu. In a suicide letter, the victim has alleged that her husband used to torture and assault her over dowry. A case has been registered following arrests of seven people.
As per India Today, Afsa, the victim, married to her boyfriend Dasthekar (27) nearly a year ago. The couple also welcomed a baby girl two months ago. The marriage took place with the due consent of families of the two.
However, Afsa mentioned in her letter that her husband along with the entire family used to beat her for the dowry. She alleged that her in-laws were not happy with the baby girl and her mother-in-law asked to get rid of the child.
The victim said that she lived with her husband for only a week. She said that after the marriage she was beaten up by her husband and in-laws multiple times despite the fact that she has already given the dowry.
She said that 50 sovereign gold and a Royal Enfield bike has been given. Meanwhile, Rs 1 lakh cash has also be given to the in-laws. The money could be retrieved and will go to her newborn baby girl for the child’s future.
Afsa said that her husband used to physically assault her on the directions of sister-in-law.
However, the victim has tried to die by suicide multiple times in the past. Once she consumed rat poison but she was saved with proper medical attention.
Since the birth of her child, Afsa was living with her maternal family where she again tried to die by suicide. Seeing her in deteriorating health condition, her family rushed her to the Thirukovilur Government General Hospital but she died on the way.
As soon as the Thirukovilur Police received information, it recovered the victim’s body and sent it for the post mortem.
The police arrested all seven people whose names were mentioned in the suicide note.
