Maharashtra: An unidentified woman in Maharashtra’s Thane city was burned to death while travelling in an auto-rickshaw due to a coughing fire after hitting a road divider. The driver was rushed to the hospital as he suffered burn injuries, and the woman’s body was sent to a government hospital for a postmortem.

The woman is still unidentified, and the driver was identified as a 45-year-old named Rajesh Kumar. The incident took place at 5.45 a.m. in the Gaimukh area on Ghodbunder Road.

Thane Municipal Corporation’s regional disaster management cell (RDMC) chief Avinash Sawant said that the driver of an auto-rickshaw was driving from Thane to Bhayander when he lost control of the wheels. The car then collided with a road divider and caught fire. The driver sustained severe burn injuries and the vehicle was turned to ashes after a woman passenger was trapped inside and burned to death. After being notified, local firefighters and the RDMC crew hurried to the scene and extinguished the fire within half an hour.

He added that the Kasarwadavali police were carrying out a probe into the incident.
