Skywalk Progress Delays In Noida Sector 51-52 Metro Station; Passenger Woes To Exist For Long

Travellers heading to the Noida Sector 51-52 metro station may face escalating difficulties in their commute due to the significant distance.

Travellers heading to the Noida Sector 51-52 metro station may face escalating difficulties in their commute due to the significant distance. This problem has been persistent for a long time. The solution to this issue lies in the pending construction of a Skywalk, eagerly awaited by the people. Unfortunately, due to planning and design issues, the work on the Skywalk has slowed down considerably. Officials now estimate the project’s completion by next March, forcing people to navigate temporary pathways and traffic in the meantime.

One notable change affecting the Skywalk project is its design alteration. This alteration entails an increase in the number of pillars supporting the Skywalk’s structure. The change was necessitated by the proximity of the metro cable and the CNG line, lying approximately 125 meters from the Aqua Line towards the Blue Line. In response to this challenge, the authorities decided to provide support by erecting two pillars on the sides rather than building a single pillar in the middle. This modified structure has received approval and work has commenced on it. The changes will result in an additional Rs 1 crore in civil work costs and extend the project’s completion by an extra three months. The proposed project completion date is now set for March 31, 2024.

The Skywalk project is being executed in two stages. The Noida Authority initiated the work in March, dividing it into civil work and electrical work sections. Civil work encompasses the erection of iron structures and pillars, with one pillar set up every 10 meters along the 430-meter Skywalk structure. However, when the cable and CNG line came in between, it necessitated the removal of several middle pillars and the construction of two pillars on either side. Currently, around 45 per cent of the civil work has been completed on-site.

The electrical work is scheduled to commence later in the year, beginning in December. The Noida Authority is investing approximately Rs 26 crore in the Skywalk’s construction, with roughly Rs 11 crore allocated for civil work and Rs 15 crore for electrical work. An agency for the electrical work has already been selected, and metering work for installing the travellator is completed. Afterwards, work to install the travellator and AC will commence on-site. The 430-meter-long and 6-meter-wide Skywalk will significantly reduce the walking distance between the two metro stations and provide more convenience for passengers. Upon completion, the Skywalk will link directly to the corridor inside both metro stations.

This project will be a considerable relief for passengers, as they will no longer have to navigate frequent ups and downs to commute between the two stations, resulting in saved time and enhanced convenience. The Aqua Line runs between Noida and Greater Noida, featuring the Sector-51 metro station, while the Blue Line connects Noida and Dwarka, with the Sector-52 metro station. Commuters currently face significant challenges while travelling between the two stations.
