A shocking incident has emerged from the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. Here a Shiv Sena leader Sukant Sawant burnt his own wife alive. He also had two accomplices along with him for committing the crime, identified as Rupesh Sawant and Pramod Gawanang. The wife was killed by pouring petrol and setting her on fire. The incident occurred on September 2.
After her wife was burnt and reduced to ashes, Sukant along with his companions threw away the bones (remains) of her wife in the ocean of Ratnagiri. This was done so that no evidence of the murder could be found.
The wife of accused Sukant, Swapnali Sawant, has worked in the past as the President of Ratnagiri Panchayat Samiti and she was also a local leader.
After killing Swapnali, the accused himself went to the police station and lodged a missing complaint of his wife. But when the police started the investigation, the truth gradually came out and the police arrested two of his associates including the accused husband.
Frequent quarrels between the couple
If sources are to be believed, there were frequent quarrels between Sukant and Swapnali. The personal relations of both were not good. They both used to have frequent quarrels. Each of them accused the other of having illicit affairs.
Sukant probably wanted to clear his path to continue with the affair and hence took such a gruesome step.
