Kochi: India’s first water metro will get inaugurated on April 25 in Kochi, Kerala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off India’s first water metro. In addition, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that it will bring a great revolution in water transportation and state tourism.

All about Water Metro
1. The metro project will begin with eight electric hybrid boats manufactured by Cochin Shipyard Limited.
2. The Kochi water metro will connect ten islands in and around the port city.
3. The dream project is supported by the Kerala government and the German corporation KfW.
4. The overall KWM (Kochi Water Metro) project includes 78 electric boats and 38 ports.
5. The KWM service will begin in the first phase from the High Court-Vypin and Vyttila-Kakkanad terminals. Commuters will be able to reach Vypin Terminal from High Court Terminal in less than 20 minutes, according to Kerala Chief Minister. Water Metro takes you to Kakkanad in 25 minutes from Vyttila.
6. The minimum ticket price will be Rs 20. People can book tickets online through the Kochi One app, and for regular passengers, weekly and monthly passes are available. People can even use the Kochi One card to travel by both water and rail in the Kochi metro.
7. The Kochi water metro would be powered by Lithium Titanite Spinel batteries.
8. The water metro is said to be eco-friendly, electrically powered, and safe for individuals with disabilities.
9. It will have air-conditioned boats with large windows that will provide an unusual view of the backwaters.
10. The total cost of the Kochi Water Metro project is Rs. 1,137 crores.
