Candidates with Criminal Background
Bihar assembly 2025: The Mokama seat has drawn attention because JD(U) candidate Anant Singh was arrested for allegedly killing his opponent Dular Chand Yadav. Another key seat is Raghunathpur, where the RJD has fielded Osama Shahab, the son of the late gangster-turned-politician Md Shahabuddin. Both these constituencies are also in focus in the first phase of election.

Raghopur, known as the stronghold of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family, has a large Yadav population. This seat will witness a major contest where RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav will face candidates from the NDA and Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party. Tejashwi appears to have an advantage, as he won this seat in both the 2015 and 2020 elections by a big margin.

Deputy CM, Vijay Kumar Sinha of the BJP and the current Speaker of the state assembly, is contesting for a sixth term here. Here also, the caste factors like Yadav, Bhumihar, and OBC voters will play the cards. Sinha will be challenged by Suraj Kumar of the JSP. However, the BJP has built a strong base in the constituency. The party has won three consecutive times in 2010, 2015, and 2020 due to robust Bhumihar and upper-caste voter support.
3, Tarapur (Munger District): Samrat Choudhary, BJP against RJD’s Arun Kumar
Tarapur has traditionally been a JD(U) stronghold, where a high-profile contest can be seen. Here, the fight will be straight between the RJD and JD(U), Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary of the BJP will contest the election from this seat.
Under the seat-sharing deal, JD(U) has given this constituency to the BJP for this election. The area has a large number of Kushwaha, Yadav, Muslim, and Scheduled Caste voters. The main contest here will be between BJP’s Samrat Choudhary and RJD’s Arun Kumar.
4, Mahua (Vaishali District): Tej Pratap Yadav, Janshakti Janata Dal against RJD v LJP
Lalu Prasad’s estranged son, Tej Pratap Yadav is the one to watch out for in this constituency. Here, it will be a triangular contest. The contest will be intense because of a family dispute within the Yadav family. He is now facing a candidate from the RJD, which was once his own party. However, he has already won this seat once before, in 2015.
5, Chapra (Saran District): Khesari Lal Yadav, RJD against BJP and JSP
Khesari Lal Yadav, one of the most famous stars in Bhojpuri films and music, is contesting elections for the first time from Chapra on an RJD ticket.
He will face BJP’s Chhoti Kumari, who is backed by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and Jai Prakash Singh from the Jan Suraaj Party. The RJD hopes that Khesari Lal’s huge fan following and popularity, especially among the youth and migrant workers, will help him attract voters in this important district.
6, Mokama (Patna District): Anant Singh, JD(U) against Piyush Priyadarshini, JSP
Mokama became the center of attention after its former MLA, Anant Singh, was arrested along with his two associates, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, on November 1. They were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the murder of Dular Chand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party. Anant Singh is also trying to win back the Mokama seat in the election.
Dular Chand Yadav died last week while campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi in Mokama.
7, Raghunathpur (Siwan District): Osama Shahab, RJD against JD(U) and JSP
Osama Shahab, the son of the late gangster-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin, is contesting his first election on an RJD ticket from the Raghunathpur seat, which was once his father’s strong area.
The RJD’s move to give him a ticket has created controversy, with many people questioning the party’s decision. The election in Raghunathpur is expected to be tough, as Osama will compete against Vikash Kumar Singh of JD(U) and Rahul Kirti of the Jan Suraaj Party. The RJD hopes to gain support by appealing to the memory of Shahabuddin’s legacy while also promoting Osama’s own image.
