Mumbai: The Maharashtra Bhushan Awards ceremony was organised in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar on Sunday, where eleven people died because of a heatwave and around 120 people were hospitalised due to ill health. According to media reports, people were taken to the Tata Hospital in Kharghar.

After the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde went to meet those admitted to the hospital. The Chief Minister announced that Rs 5 lakh would be given to the families, and free treatment would be provided at specialised hospitals if they needed additional treatment.

CM Shinde gave information and said that lakhs of people had come for the programme. Some of them died, which is very painful. He said that Deputy Municipal Commissioner-level officers and medical teams of the Panvel Municipal Corporation have been deputed to coordinate with the victims and relatives of the deceased and give timely updates.
About the event
The event was organised in honour of Maharashtra Bhushan awardee and social activist Dattatreya Narayan alias Appasaheb Dharmadhikari. People started gathering for the programme on Sunday morning. The programme started at around 11.30 am and went on until around 1 pm. Lakhs of people attended the programme. The ground was full of people. According to media reports, seating arrangements were made in the open for the people gathered on the ground.
