Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 13-km section of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, being implemented by NCRTC, on Sunday (January 5). This event marks a new chapter in enhancing semi-high-speed regional connectivity for the National Capital Region.
13-km section of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, includes a 3.5-km stretch of Package 6, being executed by Afcons. Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is worth Rs 4,600 crore. And with this now you can commute from Delhi to Meerut in just 40 minutes. This is going to further boost trade and tourism between both the cities.
The 3.5-km stretch comprises the New Ashok Nagar Station and the viaduct with six steel bow-string spans. The New Ashok Nagar station is the first elevated station of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor in Delhi that will also have interconnectivity with the New Ashok Nagar Metro Station of the Delhi Metro.
Namo Bharat Corridor
The new launch will offer commuters a fast and efficient travel option between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South RRTS stations. With this, Namo Bharat trains will now arrive in Delhi. Currently, a 42-km stretch of the corridor between Sahidabad and Meerut South is operational which is featuring 9 stations. With the new stretch operational, the Namo Bharat Corridor will expand to 55 km, with a total of 11 stations. The entire 82-kilometer corridor is expected to become operational by June.
Public service on the Namo Bharat trains has begun from 5 pm on Sunday (January 5 2025), with a frequency of 15-minute intervals between the trains. You can travel from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South station in just 40 minutes. The journey between Meerut South and Anand Vihar takes 35 minutes on the RRTS.
Once the entire Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor becomes operational completely, it is expected to remove over 1.5 lakh private vehicles from the roads, which will result in the reduction of carbon emissions by 2.5 lakh tones annually.
Namo Bharat Delhi-Meerut RRTS trains have a maximum speed of 160 kmph. This makes them a semi- high speed mode of travel for passengers.
Stations And Fare From New Ashok Nagar Station To Meerut South
The fare for travel from Delhi to Meerut will cost Rs 150 in a standard coach and Rs 225 in a premium coach. Namo Bharat train services operate over a 42 Km stretch from Sahibabad to Meerut South, covering 9 stations- Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, and Meerut South. Now this will increase to 11 stations.
