Bengaluru: After a five-year wait, Bengaluru Greenline for the metro is ready to open for netizens in August which will connect Nagasandra-Madavara.
The 3-kilometre route, with three stations, was supposed to be completed in 2017. However, the project was delayed due to land acquisition concerns and other challenges. The Nagasandra-Madavara section will connect the city’s outskirts to the BIEC, a premier exhibition venue. It would also bring much-needed respite to commuters who travel between the two places by car.
The BMRCL, the organisation in charge of the Bengaluru Metro, has announced that the Nagasandra-Madavara stretch is now 95% complete. The remaining work should be done within the following few weeks. When completed, it will be Bengaluru’s first metro line to connect the city’s east and west sides. It will also be the city’s first metro line to connect to the BIEC.
The elevated route from Nagasandra to Madavara (previously Bangalore International Exhibition Center-BIEC) will include three stations: Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara.
Delays in acquiring land impeded the project. The BMRCL has set a new deadline for completing construction on the metro line, with the intention of opening for commercial operation in September.
