What Is ‘Mumbai One’? India’s First Fully Integrated Transport App Set to Transform Commuting in MMR

Mumbai One is India's first fully integrated transport app launched to transform commuting across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Mumbai One’ app during his visit to Mumbai on Wednesday. This is India’s first fully integrated mobility platform that fundamentally transforms the way commuters move in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), making public transport more accessible and efficient with recently integrated services from 11 different transport operators in one digital platform.

The Mumbai One app will integrate the Mumbai Metro Line 1, Line 2A, Line 3, and Line 7, Mumbai Monorail, Navi Mumbai Metro, Mumbai Suburban Railways, and the BEST, Thane Municipal Transport, Mira Bhayandar, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Transport, and Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport bus services. This means that once connected, commuters will be able to plan, book, and pay for their whole journey—one way to multiple modes of transport—from one app.

The app issues digital, cashless tickets for fully integrated multi-modal commuter journeys and eliminates the need for paper tickets and immediate queue times. It will also issue dynamic single tickets for multi-modal journeys, including metro and train, rail, and bus travel. The end-to-end travel integration will decrease wait time and allow smoother transitions to different modes of transport.

Apart from ticketing, Mumbai One provides other commuter-friendly features like real-time travel updates, live vehicle tracking, estimated arrival times, and notifications for delays and alternate routes. It also has a map-based user interface that helps users find nearby stations, tourist attractions, and landmarks. In addition to all of these features, for user safety, the app offers an SOS button for emergencies.

As the officials have noted, Mumbai One aims to improve the commuting experience in Mumbai by connecting, automating, and securing a streamline of services under one platform. It is anticipated that Mumbai One will dramatically increase the public’s use of public transport efficiently, with less hassle or stress during daily commutes.

The app will launch the same day that the Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ) opens, and Navi Mumbai International Airport is opened. This brand new airport, with a cost of ₹19,650 crore is expected to accommodate up to 90 million passengers and will be fully operational as an emerging airport for the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. This significant addition will have a positive effect on the region’s infrastructure.
