Mumbai: Veteran politician and Nationalist Congress Party founder Sharad Pawar agreed to rethink his decision to resign from the president post of the party, senior NCP leader and his nephew Ajit Pawar told reporters.
Supriya Sule, Ajit Pawar, and other NCP leaders met him this evening and told the media persons that he has sought time for a few days.
Earlier today, adding a dramatic episode in Maharashtra politics, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has left the top position and said he will not contest elections in the future.
Pawar who founded the NCP in 1999 said, “I have three years tenure remaining in Rajya Sabha. I will not contest elections henceforth.”
The senior leader made the relevations at the launch of the second edition of his autobiography, ‘Lok Maze Sangati’.
“I started my political career on May 1, 1960. Yesterday we celebrated May day. After this prolonged political career, one must think about stopping somewhere. One must not be greedy.”
Later on, party members from all over Maharashtra asked Pawar to reverse his decision. Many of his followers have come on the roads to request him to not take such a decision.
