Navi Mumbai International Airport at a glance – passenger capacity, terminals, cargo, amenities and more

Spanning 1,160 hectares, NMIA is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (a subsidiary of Adani Airports Holdings Ltd.) holding 74 percent stake, and CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd.), holding 26 percent. It is committed to building a sustainable airport that caters to the burgeoning air traffic demands of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Western India, while strengthening India’s global connectivity, the Adani Group said.

The greenfield airport’s lotus-inspired design blends Indian heritage with state-of-the-art sustainable engineering, making it one of Asia’s most advanced airports. Phase 1 will handle 20 million passengers annually with one runway and terminal. At full capacity, NMIA will feature four terminals and two runways, raising Mumbai’s combined capacity with CSMIA to 155 million passengers per year.

The airport will also become a major cargo hub, scaling from 0.5 million to 3.2 million tonnes annually, supported by a fully automated, AI-enabled terminal. The project is expected to generate over 2 lakh jobs across aviation, logistics, IT, hospitality, and real estate, with sustainability features including renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, and passive cooling. The DGCA granted its aerodrome license on October 1.

Gautam Adani Reviews New Navi Mumbai Airport

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Wednesday inspected Mumbai’s new international airport to be inaugurated on October 8 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of its inauguration. Gautam Adani reviewed the project site and personally walked through the final preparations of the greenfield Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).

In a social media post, Gautam Adani wrote, “Ahead of the inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport on 8 Oct, I met with our differently-abled colleagues, construction workers, women staff, engineers, artisans, fire fighters and the guards who helped bring this vision to life. I felt the pulse of a living wonder – a monument shaped by thousands of hands and hearts. When millions of flights take to the skies and billions walk through these halls, the spirit of these people will echo through every takeoff and every step – and to them, I offer my deepest gratitude. Jai Hind.”
