Mumbai weather update: IMD issues orange alert, heavy rains set to lash city this weekend – check forecast

Mumbai weather update: Thursday began with pleasant weather conditions and comfortable temperatures, suitable for outdoor activities. However, as the day progresses, the conditions are expected to change as there is a high possibility of light to moderate rain during late afternoon and evening hours.

Mumbai Weather Update: Torrential rain is expected to sweep Mumbai during the festive weekend, causing significant disruptions across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned against extremely heavy rainfall over the region and neighbouring districts until Sunday. A yellow alert has been issued for September 26, while an orange alert is in place on the 27th and 28th.

Mumbai has been experiencing an intermittent spell of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds over the past few days. Residents experienced some respite from showers on Wednesday; however, they continued to remain under grey skies. The Met Department has predicted more rain, despite the city surpassing its monthly average quota this month.

Thursday began with pleasant weather conditions and comfortable temperatures, suitable for outdoor activities. However, as the day progresses, the conditions are expected to change as there is a high possibility of light to moderate rain during late afternoon and evening hours. Thereafter, on September 25, moderate rain is likely in the city, with conditions deteriorating later.

Additionally, train services, flight operations, and public transport could be potentially hit as heavy rain is expected over multiple districts of Maharashtra. While torrential rain is expected to batter the city on Sunday, heavy to very heavy showers are likely this Sunday.

Mumbai Weather Forecast Till September 28

Strong winds, traveling at a speed of 30 to 40 km/h, accompanied by lightning, thunderstorms, and rain, are very likely to occur at isolated places in the North Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada districts, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai said.

The weather forecasters has urged Maharashtra residents to stay indoors and exercise caution as the relentless rain could trigger massive traffic snarls and vehicle breakdowns. Meanwhile, chances of roads turning into rivers are high if the rainy conditions worsen, so consider wearing masks and carrying an umbrella.
