The BrihanMunicipal Corporation reported that Mumbai received over 100 mm of rainfall from 08:00 hrs on Friday to 04:00 hrs on Saturday.

The Mumbai City area received 99.61 mm of rainfall, while the Eastern Suburbs and Western Suburbs received 142.80 mm and 144.57 mm of rainfall, respectively. The Mumbai metropolitan region districts of Palghar, Thane and Raigad also experienced heavy rainfall. Private airliners IndiGo and SpiceJet-have released advisories about potential delays in arrivals/departures from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. There have been no reported issues yet on suburban trains in Mumbai.
In its forecast, the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Observatory said, “Widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during the period 15-20 August 2025.” A red alert has been sounded for Raigad district; Mumbai and Thane are under orange alert.
Waterlogging In Multiple Locations
Following the heavy rain the night before, several low-lying stretches were heavily waterlogged, particularly in flood-prone suburbs. Waterlogging also occurred in Sion-King Circle, Bandra, L Vile or Vile Parle, Andheri, Vashi and Vasai-Virar. The local train tracks can be seen submerged at Sion station under a heavy downpour. Vehicles can be seen driving through waterlogged streets in Bandra and Andheri. Pedestrians were seen walking in waterlogged streets in Vashi.

But, unlike past years when such showers would have brought the city to its knees, Saturday’s rains have caused little interruption as of now. Mumbai suburban train services, the lifeblood of the city, continued to run with only minor delays while major arterial roads did not show any serious traffic snarls at the time of reporting. Few civic officials attributed the relatively uninterrupted use of the city’s transport systems to effective drainage management and pre-monsoon readiness.
Mumbai Cops Release Advisory
The Mumbai Police urge residents to be cautious. In a public advisory issued on its official X account, the police said, “Mumbai is experiencing heavy rainfall with an Orange Alert in effect. Waterlogging and reduced visibility have been reported in several areas. Mumbaikars are advised to avoid non-essential travel and exercise caution while venturing out.” The advisory states police personnel would be kept on alert to respond to calls of distress and assist wherever possible. The police indicated that the emergency helplines (100, 112, and 103) have also been activated for speedy response.
