Mumbai: Bank Manager Stops SUV, Jumps Off Atal Setu – Was ‘Work Pressure’ Behind This Extreme Step?

Mumbai: In yet another shocking incident, a manager of a public sector bank allegedly jumped off the Atal Setu bridge in Mumbai, media reports said. The incident took place around 9:57 am on Monday when the man stopped his red Maruti Brezza on the southbound stretch of the bridge, came out from the car and jumped off the bridge, police said.

“We received information from the traffic department, after which teams were dispatched to the scene to locate the man,” Senior police inspector Rohit Khot was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

His identity was revealed when the police carried out a search in his car and discovered that he lived in a rented apartment in Parel with his wife, seven-year-old daughter and mother-in-law.

An officer said, “We sent the vehicle’s registration number to the RTO who helped us with the name, address and the mobile number of the owner. As Chakravarty had jumped into the sea along with his phone and car key, we could not reach him, following which we sent a team to his address in Parel.”

“We called them to the police station and during the inquiry, Chakravarty’s wife told us that he was under work pressure,” Khot added.

The Sewri police said no note was found from the scene. “Chakravarty was working as a manager at the bank’s Hutatma Chowk office in Fort. Over the weekend, he had taken his family for a getaway to Lonavala. On Monday, he informed his family that he was going to the office but instead went to Atal Setu and jumped off the bridge,” Khot said.

Search operations for the man were stopped by Monday evening. “As it turned dark, we stopped the search operation but we will restart the operation on Tuesday. We have approached fishermen in the area to help with any information,” Khot added.
