Mumbai Suicide Case: In a disturbing incident, a 25-year-old Air India pilot reportedly died by hanging herself with a data cable at her rented apartment in Mumbai. Police arrested the victim’s boyfriend on charges of alleged harassment on Tuesday.
Her boyfriend identified as 27-year-old Aditya Pandit has been accused of harassment and abuse by one of the victim’s relatives. An official told PTI citing an FIR that the accused even forced her to stop eating non-veg food.
According to reports, the victim, a native of Uttar Pradesh had been living in Mumbai since June 2023 due to work. They met each other during a commercial pilot course in Delhi about two years ago and got into a relationship.
Sources revealed Pandit was en route to Delhi when the victim called and told him that she would kill herself. After this, he immediately rushed to Mumbai but found the flat’s door locked from inside. He got it opened with the key maker’s assistance and found her hanging with a data cable.
The doctors declared her dead after she was admitted to a hospital. No suicide note was however discovered in her flat, the official said.
Her uncle later reached out to the police alleging that she was harassed and humiliated in public. Besides, she was even pressured to change her food habits, reports added.
Based on the complaint, Pandit was arrested under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He was reportedly produced before a court which remanded him in police custody for four days.
