Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: India’s Deepest Underground Station Rising 32.5 Metres Below Ground

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is constructing India's deepest underground station at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, excavated to a depth of 32.5 metres below ground equivalent to a 10-storey building.

In a remarkable engineering achievement, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor will include one of the deepest underground stations in both India and the world. The station is part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-speed rail corridor and is being built up to 32.5 meters (106 ft) depth-which is equal to the height of a 10-storey building.

This underground station being built in Mumbai will be the deepest station in the country, which is about 32.5 meters in depth. The station will have a three-level platform structure, which will include a cocores, service floors and high-speed platforms.

Six bullet train platforms will be built here, whose length is kept about 415 meters. Although the station will be under the ground, natural lights are being arranged so that this place feels open and illuminated.

Two entry and exit points have been fixed for passengers’ facilities – one will be connected to the Thane metro line, while the other will be built near the MTNL building. It will also be connected to high-speed rail networks, roads and metro networks so that passengers can get the benefit of intrormodal connectivity.

According to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, the country’s first bullet train service will be started soon, which will reduce the journey time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just 2 hours and 7 minutes.

The project is being operated by the National High Speed ​​Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the estimated cost of which is ₹ 1.08 lakh crore (except taxes). About 81% of the total cost of the project is being provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) through an ODA loan.

The rest of the cost is sharing the Government of India, with 50% of the Ministry of Railways, and 25-25% of the governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat. This project is an important step towards bringing revolutionary changes in the infrastructure of India as well as making the country in the queue of leading nations towards high-speed rail technology.
