A 30-year-old woman and her 19-year-old boyfriend have been arrested in Mumbai on suspicion of raping and murdering the woman’s two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. The incident took place in the Malvani area and came to the attention of the police when the child was taken to a government hospital in Malvani Janakalyan Nagar late at night. The doctor who examined the child found bleeding in her private parts and declared her dead. The doctor then realized the seriousness of the child’s injuries and called the police.
According to the police, the woman had been living at her mother’s house after getting divorced three years earlier. She had her daughter after her husband abandoned her while she was pregnant. In recent times, she started a relationship with the 19-year-old accused boy.
On the night of the event, the accused boy raped the girl in front of her mother. The child screamed out in pain and subsequently died from her injuries sustained from the rape. After the event occurred, the woman took her daughter to the hospital. At first, she attempted to mislead the doctors by stating that her daughter had epilepsy. Though the medical examination showed signs of injuries demonstrating the child had been sexually assaulted, the doctor suspected foul play and ultimately alerted the police.
As per the medical report, the Malvani police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the woman and her boyfriend. They have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape and murder, as well as charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police officials confirmed that both the woman and her boyfriend have been arrested and are in custody. The case has shocked the local community because of the horrific nature of the crime and the age of the victim. The case is currently at the preliminary stages of being investigated, and the police are trying to gather more evidence against the accused.
